A global perspective on the African Diaspora allows us to perceive sometimes surprising similarities and connections between cultural phenomena found in disparate geographies, hinting at styles of African-African synergies and of similar and different evolutions in distinct contexts, based partially on which Africans who hadn’t met in Africa met in the various Diasporas. Viewing this global presence through the prism of the South Asian and Indian Ocean Worlds challenges assumptions forged within the limiting lens of the Atlantic World to add the necessary complexity for a deeper understanding of both localized dynamics and broader patterns.
